Public Hearings

The Enquiry Programme provides for the holding of two sets of public hearings during the course of the Enquiry - the first during November 2006 and the second during April, May and June 2007. Except where the Enquiry Panel decides otherwise, all such hearings will always be open to the public.

November 2006 Hearings

The November 2006 hearings that were held in Pretoria, Cape Town and Durban, were mainly aimed at affording selected stakeholders the opportunity to make public presentations regarding their submissions. Guidelines were issued for these hearings to assist stakeholders in understanding the procedures to be adopted and to guide them in making their oral presentations at the hearings. Major banks, smaller banks, consumer groups, some regulators and members of the public all made presentations briefly summarizing and highlighting the main thrust of their submissions and concerns that had been submitted to Enquiry.

April, May & June 2007 Hearings

These hearings, which will all take place in the Red Room, Ground Floor, Commission Offices, Pretoria commenced on Tuesday, 3^rd April 2007.

Unlike the first public hearings held in November 2006, these hearings will mainly focus on the following specific subject matters that have been identified by the Enquiry:
