The Mergers and Acquisitions Division is responsible for administering the provisions of Chapter 3 of the Competition Act and its core function is the investigation and analysis of mergers.

A merger occurs when one or more companies directly or indirectly acquires or establishes direct or indirect control over the whole business (or part thereof) of another company. Mergers can occur through buying or leasing of shares and assets, joint ventures and/or pure amalgamation of companies/businesses.
