Research

  • ACF / World Bank Group: “Breaking Down Barriers”
  • In 2014, ACF and World Bank Group started working on joint project to examine the status of competition frameworks and implementation in Africa
  • In April 2016, the report was released at the ICN’s annual conference in Singapore
  • Breaking-down-barriers-unlocking-Africas-potential-through-vigorous-competition-policy
  • Interview conducted with Chair of ACF and WBG on CNBC Africa on 16 August 2016.

  • ACF cross-country sector study: April 2016 – April 2017
  • Similar to the Six Countries Study
  • Cross-country sectors enable agencies to compare their markets to other similar countries. This can indicate anti-competitive conduct in the market. Eg Zambia’s cement price was much higher than other countries – indicated existence of cement cartel
  • Research like this provides opportunity for “learning by doing”
  • 6 sectors and 14 ACF members
