The 15 year review

The Commission and the Competition Tribunal hosted the Eighth Annual Competition Conference and Fifteen-Year Celebration from 4 – 5 September 2014.

The conference marked the competition authorities’ 15 years of competition enforcement. As part of the celebration, the Commission and Tribunal produced a booklet titled: 15 Years of Competition Enforcement – A People’s Account, and a video providing an account of the impact of the authorities’ work. The two offerings provided a 360-degree assessment of some of the most important cases and interventions in several sectors which the authorities have dealt with over the past 15 years.

The conference, which is hosted in partnership with the Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS) also, provided a platform for delegates in areas of competition law and economics to interrogate topics of interest and contribute to the development of competition law in South Africa and beyond.

Minister Ebrahim Patel of the Economic Development Department officially opened the conference welcoming hundreds of delegates, including those from competition agencies around Africa and one regional competition agency, the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa Competition Commission.
