Siyabulela Makunga is a dynamic corporate communications practitioner. Makunga holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences (Communication) from the University of Fort Hare which he obtained in 2000. He is a Chartered Public Relations Practitioner who was accredited by the Public Relations Institute of Southern Africa (PRISA). Makunga has over 18 years’ working experience in the field of marketing and communications most of which has been in management positions.
Among a myriad of organisations he has worked for, Makunga worked for Amathole District Municipality, Kaizer Chiefs Football Club, Wits University, National Economic Development and Labour Council (NEDLAC), NERPO as well government departments of Land Affairs, Minerals and Energy and Correctional Services.
At the time of joining the Competition Commission, Makunga was working as a freelance Media and Communications Consultant largely servicing the public sector. His latest permanent job in the public service was at Amathole District Municipality where he worked as a Senior Manager: Communications and Customer Care. In this position, Makunga served for a period of five years as Institutional Spokesperson and a Divisional Head responsible for corporate communications, corporate branding, marketing, stakeholder relations, media relations and customer care among other work-streams.
