The Commission is conducting a market inquiry in the land based public passenger transport sector to understand the general state of competition. The Commission initiated the Inquiry because it has reason to believe that there are features or a combination of features in the land based public passenger transport sector that may prevent, distort or restrict competition within the sector; and to achieve the purposes of the Act.
As part of the evidence-gathering phase, the Inquiry is currently holding public hearings across the country with a view to obtain written and oral submissions from various stakeholders. The Inquiry panel is chaired by the Commission’s Chief Legal Counsel, Bukhosibakhe Majenge, and he is joined by two other members, Ms Nompucuko Nontombana, Divisional Manager: Market Conduct, and Mr Thulani Mandiriza, Head: Inquiry Technical Team. The evidence leaders are other Commission employees, Mr Itumeleng Lesofe, Principal Analyst: Market Conduct, and well as Jabulani Ngobeni, Principal Legal Counsel: Legal Service Division. There is a team of lawyers and economists that provides support to the panel and evidence leaders.
The public and market participants are encouraged to participate in the Inquiry by providing evidence and information that will assist the Commission in coming up with sound recommendations.
